We two went to Caruso's with a $10 Restaurant.com coupon and ordered 2 SPECIALs of corned beef sandwiches, chips and drinks, spending around $25. When I went to pay the man told me that he was not accepting Restaurant.com coupons any more... he had had to many coupon users and was sick of them. (Why not just remove Caruso's from the Restaurant.com site?) Then the cranky man decided that he would do me a special favor and accept this one last coupon from me. When we started eating we realized that we had received 2 roast beef sandwiches. When I mentioned this the man told me that "roast beef and corned beef were the same, just with more pepper". While the food was okay (but nothing special), the man (staff/owner?) was rather disagreeable, therefore I am rating Caruso's 2 stars instead of 3.

Caruso's has great service, more than adequate sandwiches and fair prices. I have eaten here many times. But my most frequent experiences are ordering for early evening group events in our nearby business. They make a great sandwich platter with fix'ns on the side, chips, cookies, sodas. Because we are nearby, they deliver. They are only open for lunch. Physical seating is limited. They could benefit from a TV tuned to sports. The owners are very pleasant people.

Great place to eat a good sandwich. I come here often and it's always the same quality sandwich. My favorite is "the godfather" and their deserts.

This is truly one of the best delis in Salt Lake City! I ordered lunch for a staff meeting, and everything was amazing! From the veggie sandwich, Reuben, Italian Stallion and croissant tuna sandwich, everything was fresh and with great flavor combinations. Salads were big and chock full of toppings. I will definitely return!!!

Had the Caruso's Club. Not too bad at all. All the veggies were fresh and the place was pretty clean. Staff was very friendly. The prices are kinda steep, but not too bad. The only complaint I had was that I got the order to go and the girl barely wrapped it and threw it in a plastic bag... cuz thats the way to send off a to-go order.

This place is kind of hidden away in an industrial part of town. I try to hit it every time I go to Salt Lake City. The sandwiches are some of the best I have ever had and the feeling of the place brings me back to the 80's. I am pretty sure it is a family run business, and they are extremely nice. I am getting hungry just from writing this!

I absolutely love this place. The one I go to is on 1305 W and 2100 S . It's just down the street from my work and so I go there often. The guy I think is the owner is so friendly and is always cracking jokes with the customers. My recommendation, try the Turkey Caruso. It's not always on their menu but it's to die for!!

Maybe I ordered wrong. Given the bevy of what smells like coached positive reviews on this place, I expected a lot more. I was in the neighborhood, hungry, and remembered the rave reviews Caruso's received. What better way to make use of twenty minutes and ten bucks? I popped in. Unassuming location, as expected. Staff was extremely friendly. Good sign. Not terribly populated, so I couldn't scope out the eats before ordering. Bad sign. Asked for a suggestion, received unintelligible response. Ordered blind, the hot roast beef garlic something or other for $6.50. Sounded great! Wrong. The menu would suggest that these are rather sizable sandwiches, using phrases like "loaves", "half-loaves", and even offering the "lite" lunch that contained a downsized creation. I figured that if the sandwich was "meh", at least there'd be a lot of it to keep my ravenous bike racer self happy. Anyway, I was presented with a sandwich that likely wouldn't qualify as a six-inch at Subway. Disappointment. Then I picked it up and discovered, to my horror, that the whole sandwich - bread and all - had been microwaved to qualify as "hot". The bread was stretchy and mushy (Is it not standard practice to nuke the meat/cheese, toast the bun, then assemble the sandwich?). The sole toppings aboard the bread were a generic garlic sauce, a paltry offering of roast beef, and some cheddar cheese. The dipping sauce was far too much for a tiny 'wich, and nothing beyond Arby's au jus. No side was included, so I sprang for the jalapeno-pickled boiled egg (tasty!). They WERE friendly and have a tasty pickled egg. The sandwich was awful, and the litany of positive reviews here smell rather rank. You're better off at the piles of tacquerias around here. Seriously, who MICROWAVES THE BREAD?!

Despite this being a local sub shop (the use of the word "deli" is a misnomer), it's regrettably substandard in nearly every way, from the chalked out and usually illegibly scribbled menu, which is not helped by the location, which is shrouded in darkness to the food itself, which is a lot of bread and not a lot of meat for approx. double what you would spend at Subway for a much larger sandwich. It's not like the cuts are of a superior quality, especially and this is notable several notches below Grove Market, where you can get a gigantic sandwich for that same money. At Caruso's, you also generally get to choose from the same assortment of bagged chips at a Subway also and there's the same type of soda fountain. Inside, despite the parking lot frequently being full, is always somewhat empty, but it's not an enjoyable place to eat, especially. The staff seemed to feel that I should somehow know what I wanted to order and was, to put it charitably, quite impatient with questions about what comprised the various sandwiches. I went there again 3 or 4 times anyway, hoping to figure out exactly why the place was so well-spoken of and while the service varied depending on who was there, little else ever did. For a sandwich that overall is about half the size and twice the price of one of the $5 footlongs at Subway, it's just pointless to return. The value just is not present in their offerings.

Caruso's Deli is somewhat of a hidden gem. I never would have found it had I not been asked to review it. After tasting The Godfather (and my husband's Po Boy) I would most definitely return. You can read my full review on Serious Eats (just google Serious Eats Caruso's Deli) My one frustration would be the hours. They are only open M-F, from 10a-4p. And they seem to close occasionally during those posted hours - I went by on a Friday when they should have been open and the doors were locked and no one answered the phone. Either way great sandwiches.

Quick service, very friendly staff, and decent prices. I ordered The Godfather which has turkey, beef, bacon, and provolone served warm. I like to eat at different sandwich places all the time and this sandwich was impressively delicious!

This place us amazing. No complaints! I can eat meat when I want it and vegetarian sandwiches when I don't, and they have the best vegetarian sandwich I've ever had. The owners are so nice and will greet you by name if you come in enough. Great people.

I live in CA. and this is by far the best sandwich spot ive eaten at. I come to Utah often to see family, and have to stop here at least twice during my visit. The Itilian Stallion is my fav. The bread is soft and the meat is high quality.

Friendly service, great prices, fresh food. Caruso's Deli is one of those great finds you want to tell everyone about. It's not in a hip location, but it's convenient and worth whatever it takes to get there. Forget those franchised sandwiches and get something bigger, better, and just as affordable.

It amazes me how often it happens that great food is tucked hidden away in some dingy industrial park setting. Caruso's Deli is one such example. Its actually attached to the same building as a mechanic shop but serves fantastic sandwiches in a charming little deli. The staff is very friendly and genuinely excited about what they serve. Caruso's Deli Is the quintessential example of a great family owned deli!

It looks like this location is closed :( Just moved back to Utah and had been craving Caruso's Deli. Went out there the other day for lunch and it appears that this location is now closed. I *might* have been looking in the wrong spot, but I don't think so... but if you know differently please let us all know. Anyone know if the ~South Salt Lake location is still open (off of Redwood Road)
